Obituary

Anna (Spada) Carta, of Middletown, Connecticut, beloved wife of Frank A. Carta for almost 66 years,passed away on January 10, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at the Middlesex Health Care Center in Middletown, Connecticut. Born January 15, 1928 in Cromwell, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Emanuella (Luistro) Spada. She was predeceased by her daughter Carol (Carta) Carlini of Middletown, Connecticut, and her brothers Louis, Salvatore and Anthony, Jr. Spada, all of Cromwell, Connecticut. Anna is survived by her beloved sister Rosemarie (Spada) Organek of Portland, Connecticut;son Carl and his wife Patricia Carta of Middletown, Connecticut; son Robert Carta and his partner Michael Icenhour of Charlotte, North Carolina; and daughter Anne and her husband John Gauthier of Middletown, Connecticut. Anna is also survived by her eight loving grandchildren: Cara Carlini, John, Jr. and Matthew Gauthier, and Kelly, Meghan, Laura, Jennifer and Michael Carta. Anna's grandchildren were truly her pride and joy. In addition, Anna is survived by her many treasured nieces and nephews. Anna exemplified the ability to balance both work and family when she resumed her lifelong career in banking in the early 1960's. Over the course of her long and well-respected career, she progressed to the position of branch manager at First Federal Savings Bank in Durham, Connecticut. The family would like to extend a thank you to Anna's outstanding caregivers at the Middlesex Health Care Center for providing great comfort, love and compassionate care to Anna, Frank and the family for almost eight years. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Felicia Milewski, Richard Marero, LaShonda Moore, Eliza Solomon, and Richard Plasczynski, Jr. The family will receive visitors in celebration of Anna's life on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at D'Angelo Funeral Home, 22 South Main Street, Middletown, Connecticut. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday January 15, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 10 Elm Street, Middletown, Connecticut, where Anna was a faithful communicant. Interment will follow immediately after Mass at Calvary Cemetery, 307 Bow Lane, Middletown, Connecticut. Memorial contributions in Anna's name may be made to Mercy High School, 1740 Randolph Road,Middletown, Connecticut, 06457; Xavier High School, 181 Randolph Road, Middletown, Connecticut,06457; or the Independent Day School, 115 Laurel Brook Rd, Middlefield, Connecticut, 06455.
