Obituary

D'AMICO, ANTHONY JOHN Anthony John D'Amico, 91, died peacefully on January 1, 2015 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Tony was born in Middletown, Connecticut on September 15, 1923 to the late Salvatore and Mary (Turro) D'Amico and resided there his entire life until his recent relocation to Trumbull, Connecticut. He was predeceased in 1990 by his beloved wife, Josephine (Lovullo) D'Amico. Tony was drafted into the United States Army in 1942 and proudly served in the Infantry Division in the North and South Pacific until his honorable discharge in 1945. Shortly after returning to Middletown, his father passed away; being the eldest child, Tony assumed his father's role caring for his nine younger siblings. While employed at Andover Kent he met Josephine Lovullo and they were married April 10, 1948. He was later employed at Remington Rand and Standard Knapp. Family was the cornerstone of Tony's life. He cherished time with his grandsons and enjoyed attending their various activities. Interesting tales were told about the Great Depression, World War Two, and his Italian heritage by this great storyteller and will be passed to the next generation. He enjoyed travel, including many vacations to Florida, Canada and his treasured trip to Italy with his family. His love of genealogy made him the source of history and information he generously shared not only with his family, but other families with roots in Pietracatella, Italy. Many people were treated to the fruits of his labor from his well tended, manicured garden. His love of tag sales was legendary, however, he bought, but did not sell. If someone needed an item, he gladly gave it to them. Tony will be truly missed by his loving family and countless friends. Tony is survived by his son, Salvatore A. D'Amico and his wife, Janice, of Hermosa Beach CA; son, Anthony M. D'Amico, and his wife, Sharon, of Fairfield CT; grandsons Michael of Middletown CT; Brian and his wife, Diandra, of Pelham NY; Tim and his wife, Kristina, of Brooklyn NY; Stephen and Brendan of Hermosa Beach CA and great grandchildren, Ellie, Michael and Julian; sisters, Jennie D'Amico and Rita Willis; brother, Louis D'Amico and his wife Eleanor; sister-in-law Elizabeth D'Amico; and many nieces and nephews. Tony was predeceased by sisters, Josephine Campisi, Mary Zigman, Esther D'Amico and Margaret Parenteau and brothers, Donald and Salvatore D'Amico. The family will receive visitors at D'Angelo Funeral Home, 22 South Main Street, Middletown, CT on Saturday morning, January 10, 2015 from 9:30-10:30 followed by a funeral mass at 11:00am at Saint Pius the Tenth Roman Catholic Church, 310 Westfield Street, Middletown CT. Internment will be at the convenience of the family. Donations in his memory can be made to the Spina Bifida Association of Connecticut, 370 Osgood Avenue, New Britain, CT 06053. . .
