Obituary

Anthony Salvatore Marino (Tony) passed away peacefully on December 15th, 2014 at Middlesex Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. Tony was born August 3rd, 1930. He was a proud alumnae of Middletown High School and the University of Connecticut. During his college years, Tony was called to active duty in the US army and served time in Germany during the Korean conflict, as a Sargent in an intelligence unit. After receiving his bachelors degree in business from UCONN in 1954, he worked for many years as business manager for Marino Plumbing and Heating. Tony was very active in public service in Middletown. He was a democratic councilman from the early1960,s through 1975. He was elected mayor of Middletown in 1975 and served two terms. Tony continued to be active in his community through his service in the Salvation Army, The Elks, Rockfall Corporation, Urban Forestry, and many more. Tony formed his own business, AM Realty, where he served as a real estate broker and property manager. He was active with Middletown Board of Realtors for several years.His commitment and dedication to Middletown was tireless and his love for his city remained with him to the end. Tony is predeceased by his beloved wife Vergene "Genie" Snowman Marino, and his father and mother Sebastian and Carmelina Marino. He is survived by his loving children; Michael Moller-Marino, his wife Diana, and their 2 children Eliza and Zachary of Middletown; Linda King, her husband Richard and their 3 children, Benjamin, Elizabeth and Abigail of Duxbury, VT; and Patricia Cady and her husband Christopher Pierson, and Patricia's children Adrienne and Samuel of Duxbury,Vt. Tony also had 4 great grandchildren; Anna and Emma King, and Gavin and Reid Kessler. He is also survived by his 3 loving sisters and their families; Josephine Botti of Middletown, Elizabeth Peterson of Reidfield Me, and Tina Loomis of Middletown. The family would like to thank the Middlesex Hospice Unit for their compassionate care and request that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to The Hospice Unit, c/o Office of Philanthropy, Middlesex Hospital, 28 Crescent St, Middletown, CT 06457 Calling Hours are Sunday 12/21/14 from 3-7pm at D'Angelos Funeral Home, 22 South main St, Middletown.
