MAZZOTTA, ANTOINETTE (TOMMASI) Mazzotta, Antoinette (Tommasi) passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 11th at Middlesex Health Care Center with her loving family at her side, at the age of 102. Antoinette was born on December 3, 1912 in Pachino, Sicily. She came to America through Ellis Island on her first birthday in 1913. Antoinette was one of six children of the late Michael and Ann (Falbo) Tommasi. She is a lifelong resident of Middletown and attended Middletown schools. In 1941, she was married to her beloved and devoted husband of 64 years, the late Peter J. Mazzotta. Antoinette was a kind and loving woman. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished her children and grandchildren and shared family traditions, Italian proverbs, stories, and recipes from earlier generations with them. She always loved listening to opera and Italian folk music, which she enjoyed on her 102nd birthday by singing and tapping her feet to the music, while celebrating with family and friends. Throughout her life, Antoinette found joy in cooking, crocheting, traveling, and storytelling. Her gift of storytelling not only captured the minds of family and friends, but also university professors and authors. Earlier this year, author Anthony Riccio featured Antoinette's stories and proverbs in the book "Farms, Factories, and Families: Italian American Women of Connecticut." She was so honored that her stories would be passed onto future generations. Antoinette was a member of St. Sebastian Church, St. Theresa Guild, the Sacred Heart Society, the Italian Society of Middletown, the Anita Garibaldi Society, and the Rosary Club. Antoinette is survived by her daughter, Marie M. Serra and her husband Joseph C. Serra of Middletown; her son, Vincent Mazzotta and his wife Meri-Lyn of Colorado; a brother, Guy Tommasi, a sister-in-law Carmel Tommasi, six loving grandchildren, Lauriann Serra, Steven Serra, Joseph Serra, Jr. and his wife Lisa Gallagher Serra, Lisa Serra and her husband Vincent DiMauro, Jennifer Mazzotta and her husband Christopher Floyd, William Mazzotta and his wife Danna.
