Obituary

Attilio "T i l" U . Sciacca, 90, of Portland, CT and Bonita Springs, FL passed into eternal rest on

December 19 at his home, surrounded by his beloved wife of 30 years, Marie A. Sciacca, and his children . Til was born in Middletown on February 17, 1927, son of the late Zeferina (Aresco) Marchese . He was a veteran of the United States Navy , a parishioner of St. Pius Church, and played semi-professional football with the Sons of Italy Blue Jackets . He coached the St. Pius Friars Little League team when his sons were youngsters, was an ardent card player and a skilled bocce player, leading his bocce teams to championships. Til retired as a plumbing and heating tradesman, spending many passionate hours watching New York Yankees games on television . Besides his wife Marie, Til is survived by his five children, Tom Sciacca and his wife Gel i of Germany , Jodi Sciacca and her husband Alan Biddle of Middletown, Nancy Zukas and her husband Robert of Middletown, William Sciacca and his wife Bonnie of Chester , and John S . Sciacca of Middletown ; two stepchildren, Paul Martineau and his w i fe Michelle of Columbia, CT , and Denise Russo and her husband Joe of Lebanon, CT; 14 grandchildren, 7 great- grandchildren , and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sisters , Gloria Bartolotta, Ada Dills and her husband Lee , and Margi Mathewson , all of Midd l etown , Dot Distefano and her husband Paul of East Hampton, and his long - time friend and "brother", Joseph " Whitey" Scandura. Til is predeceased by brothers, Guy, Louis, Hugo, and S . William " Willie" Sciacca, sister Evelyn Statkiewitz, and his late wife Lucille Sciacca. A memorial service will be held at the D'Angelo Funeral Home, 22 South Main St., Middletown on Friday , January 5 from 10 : 00 am-12:00 noon . Interment with military honors will follow at the State Veterans Cemete r y on Bow Ln. i n Middletown .
