Carmela "Lina"
Caccamo
Jan 5, 1947 — Feb 15, 2025
Carmela (Lina) Caccamo, a beloved mother, nonna, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Melilli, Sicily, on January 5, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Rosario and Grazia (Savastra) DiMauro. At the age of 11, Lina moved to the United States, where she continued her education and became part of the first graduating class of Mercy High School in 1967. Some of her fondest memories over the years included lunch gatherings with her dear Mercy "Golden Girls".
In her twenties, Lina met and married her beloved husband, the late Giovanni (John) Caccamo, with whom she built a beautiful life. Together, they raised three children: Michael, Diana, and Rosario, whom she adored. While raising her family, Lina was an active volunteer at her children's school and took great pride in her involvement with the Scouts at St. Mary's.
Lina treasured the family's camping trips to Cape Cod, where they created lifelong memories. Their home became the neighborhood hangout- a safe and welcoming place where she was a second mom to many. She loved seeing the joy and laughter of children filling her home, knowing they always had a safe place.
Lina dedicated many years to the State of Connecticut before happily retiring alongside her husband, John. They cherished their retirement years, especially as their family grew. Her greatest joy in recent years was being Nonna to her five grandchildren: Amadeus, Amaya, Giovanni, Carmine, and Donavin. They brought her immense pride and happiness, and she will be deeply missed by them. She also shared a special bond with her daughters-in-law, Kimberly and Amanda, who hold many fond memories of their time with her.
Lina is survived by her devoted sister, Angela Pitruzzello, who was always by her side as a loving big sister. She also leaves behind her cherished niece and nephews, Anne Marie, Louie, and Sebby, and was predeceased by her beloved niece Linda. Her great-nephew Shaun (Erica Kieffer) Baldwin and their children, Graceful, Ellie, and Amelia, also held a special place in her heart.
Lina is also mourned by her extended family in Sicily, including her in-laws, Maria, Enzo, and Antoinette, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her dearly.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 21, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at D'Angelo's Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, February 22, at 10:00 AM at Saint Sebastian's Church in Middletown, followed by burial at Saint Sebastian Cemetery, weather permitting.
Lina's warmth, kindness, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
