On Thursday, July 3, 2025, our beloved Derek Franklin passed away at the age of 68.
Derek spent his childhood and school-age years in Brooklyn, New York.  He listened to his own drummer from when he decided at 16 to seek a better life for himself, going on to receive his Bachelor and Doctorate in Psychology to finally slowing down to fully embrace the fruits of his labor.
Derek spent his 30 plus year career in forensic psychology and often provided expert testimony in legal proceedings here in CT.  He touched so many with his joie de vivre; from the young patients who experienced his compassion, to the professional members of his community that respected his work.
Derek was a devoted fitness enthusiast and lifelong body builder, driven to participating in body building competitions.  He was also passionate about playing pool and was tough to beat on his home table.
Derek enjoyed live music and his passion for music was most realized through guitar playing with a goal to perform in local venues.  Derek was generous with his time and enjoyed hosting his friends at his home on numerous occasions, particularly the themed parties. He brought a bounty of beauty to everything he did…with his music, his smile and generosity. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, share himself and evoke that same spirit of love in each person he knew from friends and family inculcating them with his wicked humor.
Derek is survived by his wife, friends and family. You will be terribly missed.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date.
