Edda "Ottavia" Scianna, 88, of Rocky Hill, formerly of Middletown, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on January 18, 2025. She was born on January 29,1937 in Melilli, Sicily to the late Joseph and Sebastiana Lagana. She was the beloved wife of Sebastiano Scianna for 56 years. Edda is survived by her brother Ugo Lagana and his wife Virginia, and her sister Flavia DiDato.
Edda leaves behind her beloved children Carl Scianna and his wife Cara and her daughter Sabina Gore. Edda also leaves her grandchildren Melissa Oddo and husband Jeff, Marc Scianna and his wife Courtney, Laura Scianna and her fiancé Michael, Kelly Oleksiw, Adam Gore and his wife Jennie, Samantha Ehlers and Madison Ehlers. Edda had 5 great-grandchildren Olivia Oddo, Ella Oddo, Xander Oleksiw, and Harper and Esmay Scianna.
At the age of 18 she came here from Melilli, Sicily.
Edda ran D &S pizza, a successful pizzeria, with her husband, sister Flavia and her brother-in-law Louie DiDato. Thereafter it became Sebby's pizzeria. While working beside her husband she formed many relationships, mostly she was known for being a second mother to "Sebby's girls".
She was predeceased by her brothers Salvatore, Sebastian and Benito Lagana and her sisters Maria Germano, Bianca Tringali and Antoinette Pitruzzello. Edda was a deeply devout Catholic whose faith was the foundation of her life. She expressed her love through cooking and loved preparing meals for others. She loved to share her recipes, especially her homemade ricotta. Edda will be deeply missed by her family.
Calling hours will be Friday January 23, 2026 at D' Angelo funeral home, 22 South Main St., Middletown from 8:00-9:30. A Catholic Mass will be held directly after at St Sebastian's Church in Middletown at 10:00. Burial to follow at St Sebastian's Cemetery.
