Grace C.
Mangiameli
May 1, 1937 — Dec 29, 2025
Grace C. Mangiameli passed away Monday, December 29, 2025, after a battle with Alzheimer's. She was born May 1, 1937, in Middletown, and was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Maria (Milone) Mangiameli. Grace enjoyed a wonderful childhood with her family in Middletown and had many cherished memories. She was a lifelong member of St. Sebastian's Church. She graduated from Middletown High School in Middletown. During her time at Middletown High School, she showed her musical talent and played clarinet and trumpet in the school marching band, as well as playing French horn and Mandolin.
After Grace graduated from Middletown High School, she went to work at Travelers Insurance Company, in Hartford, as a typist. She took many courses to advance herself and through her hard work and determination became the first woman underwriter at Travelers. By the time she retired, she was head of her own field office and taking many business trips to her region in the Midwest. She often recalled that one of her field agents took her on tour of Clemson University, including the Football stadium and the team's locker room.
Grace had many loves and interests, including animals (especially her well loved pets), the New York Yankees, UCONN basketball, working in her garden, collecting coins, knitting, and collecting Mickey Mouse items. She also loved to be challenged by jigsaw puzzles – the harder the better. In addition, she was a Jill of all trades and often acted as home handyman, painting and wall papering, working in the garden and checking the oil and fluid levels in her car. She had an artistic flair, especially working with and creating things with wood, like a life-sized Santa with sled and reindeer.
Grace is survived by her beloved sister, Josephine Zawisza, and sister-in-law, Joanne Mangiameli. She also leaves behind her much loved nieces and nephews: Elizabeth Cleverly (husband, John), Mary Jo Logan (husband, David), Gloria DePatie (husband, Bill), Susan Mangiameli, Pamela Radziewicz (husband, Steve), Joseph Mangiameli (wife, Anne), Michael Mangiameli (wife, Carrie) and Jeffrey Mangiameli (wife, Michelle), and many great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Sr. Anne Mangiameli MPF, and her brother, Joseph Mangiameli.
The family would like to extend sincerest thanks to Dr. Williams and the staff at Middlesex Health Family Practice and the doctors, nurses and staff at Portland Care and Rehabilitation for her wonderful care during her stay there.
The viewing hours will be held Wednesday, January 7th, from 9:00 to 10:30 at the D'Angelo Funeral Home, in Middletown, followed by a Mass at St. Sebastian's Church, in Middletown, at 11:00. Those who wish may send memorial donations to St. Sebastian's Church, the Alzheimer's Association at donor services.alz.org or to the charity of their choice in Grace's memory.
