James H. Daley, 83, of Middletown, beloved husband of Marie (Amato) Daley, died peacefully Saturday at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Jersey City, NJ, son of the late Harold and Grace (Corby) Daley. Jim lived in Middletown for eighty years and was a member of St. John Church and later St. Sebastian Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Navy. Jim worked for the State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles for thirty-five years, rising to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in 1987. After his retirement, Jim worked as a driving instructor at EZ Lern Driving School, and as a ranger at Lyman's Golf Course which he thoroughly enjoyed. He served as a member of the St. Sebastian Church Holy Name Society, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Italian American Civic Order and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his four daughters who he adored, Kelli (Paul) Nicholas, Beth (Steven) Tanasi, Jody (Michael) Picard and Kathleen (Jason) Famiglietti and his eight grandchildren, Michael Tanasi, Lindsey Krupa, Lauren Nicholas, Nicole Tanasi, Neal Krupa, Olivia Nicholas, Ryan Famiglietti and James (Jake) Famiglietti. Jim is also survived by his five siblings, Adele McDonough, Thomas Daley, Judith Benson, Agnes Franks and Gerald Daley, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to the members of the Elks Club and the Italian American Club for all of their help and for treating Jim with such respect.
A funeral liturgy will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Sebastian Church in Middletown. Calling hours will be held at D'Angelo Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to Mercy High School or Xavier High School in Middletown.
