Joe Scirpo, age 88, passed away May 4, 2026, at Middlesex Memorial Hospital, Middletown, Connecticut.
He was born on December 29, 1937, in Middletown Connecticut, the son of the late Sebastian and Eleanor (Scirpo) Ruffino.
Joe retired after 45 years as a Machinist for Jarvis Products Corporation, Middletown
Connecticut. He moved with his wife, Joyce, and children to Durham, Connecticut in 1967. For the next 59 years he beautifully and meticulously cared for his home, lawn and gardens in Durham until his passing.
Starting in his teens, Joe loved woodworking. Over the years he built various cabinets, bookcases, bureaus, and lawn ornaments; he built a dollhouse, cradle, and rocking horse for his grandchildren.
Joe had a passion for fixing things ranging from small motors, tractors, cars and trucks and anything that needed fixing around the house. He thrived in the pursuit of figuring out how to improvise and repair whatever was broken. If Joe couldn’t fix it, chances are it simply could not be fixed. He loved his time in the woods gathering a cutting wood for his wood stoves.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brothers Sebastian and
Richard, and his son in law Michael Deco
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce of 67 years, his beloved three sons, Jay Scirpo, Scott and spouse Suzanne Scirpo and Dean and his spouse Cara Scirpo, two grandchildren Greer and his spouse Lauren Scirpo, and Crystal (Greta) Stillman; three great grandchildren, Hazel Mae Scirpo, Estelle Brackett, and Lilly Delisle. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to especially thank Joe’s Aunt Jeannie Kowalski, his cousin Dorothy Marden and her spouse Doug, and his niece Carol Chaves for their love and support during this difficult time.
Joe will be dearly and lovingly missed by his wife Joyce and his sons Jay, Scott and Dean and their families.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 18th at 11am at Mica Hill Cemetery, 62
Mica Hill Road, Durham, Connecticut, followed by a reception at Elks Lodge 771, 44 Maynard Street, Middletown, Connecticut. We invite all who knew and loved Joe to join us in honoring his life and memory.
