Lucille Sbona
Garofalo
Aug 31, 1931 — Jan 6, 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lucille Sbona Garofalo, widow of Guy "Sari"
Garofalo of Middletown. She was 91. She was the last of the Sbonas and Lapilas from 29 Ferry Street.
She is survived by her son Gary and wife, Sally; son Glenn and wife, Sue; grandson Robert and fiancé,
Alayna and grandson Matt and partner, Hayley. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Connie Garofalo Drega
from Rockfall; nephews, Billy and Mark Sbona; a special niece, Judi Sbona Squadrito and husband, Al and
a host of Sbona and Lapila cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Sari, her parents, Emanuel and
Sophie Lapila Sbona, her brother Joe and wife Phyllis Sbona; her brother Buddy and wife Connie Sbona
and her younger brother, "Uncle Manny Sbona". Mom was a devout catholic and a longtime parishioner
of St. Sebastian's Church. She was also an avid follower of the Champion New York Yankees, the Lady
Huskies of Uconn and all things Geno! She kept the cleanest house ever! She was a huge fan of
Jeopardy, old movies, Westerns and British History, just like her brother Manny! Mom didn't die of
Covid, but make no mistake, Covid was instrumental in her steady decline! Isolation and desolation
brought on a lack of concentration which led to her not driving anymore. Gone were her weekly jaunts
to CVS, Stop and Shop and Illiano's on South Main Street. Gone were her weekly and monthly lunches
with her best friend Marie Milardo, Helen, Joanie, Lucy, Rose, Marge and Betty. She passed away in
Assisted Living begging Sari and Uncle Manny to come and get her. A sad way to end a beautiful life and
in the most surreal, remarkable, hard to believe ending. She died 7 years to the day (Jan 6th) that her
brother Manny died. They can now watch Jeopardy together. Pallbearers are her 2 grandsons, Robert
and Matt Garofalo, her 2 nephews, Billy and Mark Sbona, Al Squadrito, and Ricky Misenti.
There will be a graveside service only on Friday, January 13th at St. Sebastian's Cemetery on Peters Lane,
Middlefield, CT. at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family are advised to go directly to the cemetery.
