Mary (Cannata) Cubeta age 96, wife of the late Angelo Cubeta passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving and heartbroken family on December 30, 2021.
Mary was born in Meriden, CT the daughter of Joseph and Donata R. Cannata.
She married Angelo in 1950 and they made their first home in Portland. They moved to Higganum in the 1960's to raise their growing family.
Mary's job during WWII, was as an inspector at New Departure, GMs oldest division that manufactured bearings for the war effort. It was there she met her lifelong girlfriends Angie and Evelyn. She later worked as a CNA for Middlesex Memorial Hospital. Mary was always very kind and compassionate to those in her care and frequently translated (Italian) for patients. Even after retiring from the hospital, Mary continued private duty nursing into her 80's.
Mary was an excellent cook and would gather her family on Sundays for pasta dinners. She enjoyed traveling and going on cruises with family and friends. She had an incredible green thumb and it's believed she could put a stick in the ground and make it grow. She enjoyed bowling, playing on a league for many years and had more than one perfect game. Mary was an avid reader and a true wiz at cross word puzzles.
She is survived by her seven children. Cynthia (Phil) Lawrence of Maine, Julie (Al) Keithan of Higganum, Angela (Marty) Ramsey of Haddam, Mary Lou (Bill) Cobb of Lisbon, Christine Esposito of Haddam, Polly Anne Barr of Atlanta, GA and Robert Angelo Cubeta of Higganum who was her loving care taker in her final years.
She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 4 great, great, grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her brother Louis S. Cannata of Meriden, her infant grandson Philip and great grandson Enzo.
