Obituary

Palma (Di Mauro) Fazzino, 101, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on the morning of Wednesday, March 7 , 2018. She was born in Seymour , Connecticut on January 26 , 1917 to Nicola Di Mauro and Concetta Coccomo . She was predeceased by her loving husband , Giuseppe Fazzino , her daughter , Maria Fazzino , her son Salvatore Giuseppe Fazzino , her brothers Emanuele and Sebastiano (Michael) Di Mauro , and her sister , Angelina Di Mauro as well as Michael Mackuliak, who she thought of as a son.

Palma was born in the United States , but at the age of four moved with her parents and siblings to her parent's hometown of Melilli , Sicily where she grew up , married , and had her first child . She survived her home being bombed in World War II , her husband missing in war for several years , and the loss of her young daughter who was tragically killed by an automobile six months after her husband unexpectedly returned home. To overcome these tragedies , she courageously returned to the states to begin a new life , and her husband followed months later . She worked hard , whether on her famil y farm in Melilli , at her factory job across the street from her home in Middletown , in her beloved garden , or by cleaning and cooking for her loved ones. She was fearless , outspoken and loved her family unconditionally. She will be greatl y missed by her son , Nicholas Fazzino , his wife , Josephine , her grandchildren , Sandra Fazzino , her husband Alessandro Ribola , Sara Bereika, her husband Tim , Jennifer Cook, her fiance Luke Massirio , Joseph Fazzino , Marcus Fazzino , Shane Fazzino , and her great grandson , Alton Joseph Bereika , her niece Maria Di Mauro Branciforte , her husband Sebastiano and son Salvatore , her nephew Nicola Di Mauro and his wife Giuseppa (Pinella) and their children Federica and Edoardo , and a Nephew Paul Fazzino and his Wife Diane. and her sister-in-law , Franca Fazzino, along with many more nieces and nephews. She will also be deeply missed b y her loving and tireless caregiver , Lee DeMars , to whom we will be eternally grateful .

Our warmest - thanks to Millicent Marie Malcolm and Maryellen Cosentino , her nurses, as well as the entire Middlesex Home Care staff for all the loving care they provided to Palma over the years.

Funeral Services will be held Monda y Morning at 9 ; 30 A . M. from the D ' Angelo Funeral Home 22 South Main St , followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M . at St . Sebastian Church. Burial in the family plot in St . Sebastian Cemetery , Middlefield. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 8A . M. -9:30 In Lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be mad to St. Sebastian Church
