Obituary

1937 - 2022
Peter Michael Malone was called by our Savior, November 7th in Summerville, South Carolina. Peter passed after a short illness at Bon Secours Roper St. Francis Hospital. Born in Hartford on July 4, 1937 to Salvatore (Bozo) and Angelina (Fava) Malone. He attended Middletown High School and later enlisted and served in the US Army as a tank mechanic in Honolulu, Hawaii. He married the love of his life, Linda Grace Petraglia of Rutland, Vermont on February 12, 1964 in Middletown. Linda predeceased Peter on May 19, 2019.
Peter and Linda had two children, Carrie Anne (Malone) Carter and Benjamin Vito Malone (deceased). Peter also leaves behind two children from a previous marriage, Pamela Sunfellow and Peter (Buddy) Malone Jr.
Peter was quite proud of his Sicilian (Mellili) heritage and would regale family and friends with stories of his Middletown immigrant Italian neighborhood, and the trouble he would get into along the banks of the Connecticut River. No visit back to his old neighborhood would be complete without stopping at Vecchittos Italian Ice and buying a round for everyone in the car.
Peter was also passionate about Italian cooking and left behind plenty of recipes for his family members. An avid golfer, Peter scored a rare hole-in-one in 1989 at Laurel View Country Club. For several years Peter ran his own metallurgy business (Powder Technology Corporation – then Metco) and also co-founded "Benjamin's" a successful restaurant with his son in Old Saybrook Ct.
Peter and Linda lived in Chester Connecticut for over four decades where they raised a family. Peter was a member of the local Rotary Club, and also volunteered for a plethora of various causes. Peter moved to South Carolina in the summer of 2019.
In addition to his parents and his wife Linda, he was predeceased by his brother Joseph(Joey) and sisters Annabelle and Phyllis Malone. He is survived by his two brothers, Salvatore (Champ) Malone of Portland, CT and Michael Cartwright of Westbook. He leaves a long legacy of grandchildren, including Perry and Landon Carter of California and several great-grandchildren. He was loved, respected, and will be very much missed.
Family and friends will gather per Peter's wishes of "keep it simple" by honoring him with a simple funeral mass at Saint Sebastian's Church in mid-May. The exact details will follow. In lieu of flowers, Peter wanted to grant a scholarship to a metallurgical student through the Metal Powder Industries Federation. Remembrances in Peter's name can be made out to the Metal Powder Industries Federation and mailed to Carrie Anne Carter, 227 Blue Bonnet Street, Summerville, South Carolina 29483.
