Rose (DeMauro) Hewitt, 95, passed away on February 22, 2022. She was the loving wife of the late Thomas S. Hewitt and a lifelong resident of Middletown, CT. Rose is survived by three daughters; Susan (Hewitt) D'Orvilliers and husband Marc, Pamela Hewitt and her husband Charles Calvert, and Amy (Hewitt) Cunningham and her husband Daniel. In addition, she is survived by nine grandchildren; Thomas, Mary and Katherine D'Orivillers, George, Summer and James Calvert, and Alan, Rose and Thomas Cunningham. She is also survived by her sister Marian (DeMauro) Raley and husband Fred; and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, Harry and Marian (Carta) DiMauro, and sister Dorothy (DeMauro) Steinkamp and her husband Erv.
Rose was a 1944 graduate of Middletown High School. She received her RN degree in 1947 from the Middlesex Hospital School of Nursing and was part of the Cadet Nursing Corps. In 1958 and 1959, Rose received a BS and MS in Education from New York University.
Rose began her career as an RN at Middlesex Hospital and upon returning from her studies at NYU, she expanded her career as a nurse educator at Middlesex Hospital School of Nursing, teaching biological sciences. Rose continued her healthcare career working for the City of Middletown Health Department where she created and led many innovative health educational programs for the community.
Rose was a strong, intelligent, independent woman who traveled cross country with friends, was awarded scholarships for multiple degrees and lived and studied in NYC. It was during her time in NYC, when the love of her life knocked on her door which led to the creation of a loving marriage and devoted family.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Saint Pius X Church, Middletown, CT. Donations may be made in her name, to Saint Sebastian Church or Saint Pius X Church, in Middletown, CT.
