Obituary

Sebastian J "Mickey" DiMauro, 98, of Portland (formerly of Cromwell, CT) passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 8, 2016, with his family by his bedside. He was born January 31, 1918 in Middletown, CT to Salvatore and Sebastiana (Bartolotta) DiMauro. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Angela (Branciforte) DiMauro who he shared 62 years of marriage with. He had been a resident of Portland Care & Rehab of Portland for the past six years. He was loved by the staff for his wit and sharpness. Mickey was previously a long time resident of Cromwell, CT for over 75 years.

He was a member of St. John's Church, Cromwell, and also a retired member of the Cromwell Fire Dept. Mickey was a co-founder and proud member of the Cromwell Italian American Club, where he spent countless hours planning dances, parties, carnivals, and the Feast of St. Sebastian for many years in Cromwell.

Mickey was the owner of "Mickey's Fruitery" from 1940 to 1959. His big yellow bus traveled the many streets of Middletown, Portland, and Cromwell selling fruit and vegetables. He also worked for the New Britain Foundry, JJ Stevens of Cromwell, and many years for Branciforte Greenhouses. He retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in 1983 after 25 years of service. At his time of retirement he and Angie took the entire family on a vacation cruise to Bermuda, Nassau, and St Thomas. Mickey was most proud of his loving wife Angela. They traveled to Hawaii, Florida, Canada and took many cruises over the years. His family was what he lived for. He took great pleasure in going to the casino to play bingo and black jack. You would often find Mickey sitting under the red maple tree chatting with his favorite "Ann Marie " beloved daughter-in-law and neighbors. Mickey loved holidays and family gatherings. Everyone will always remember hearing, "clean the table so we can play cards." He was an avid Boston Red Sox and U-Conn girl's basketball fan. Mickey's smile and laughter will be sorely missed by all.
